The group is ambushed by Wood Tribe forces led by Silver Rank Spirit Master Mu Rui after retrieving (a fake) intelligence jade slip. The jade slip is destroyed. A hidden agent (Ye Chu) temporarily traps Mu Rui with a golden talisman array. The four protagonists use their ultimate escape techniques (Black Phoenix transformation, Golden Dragon projection, Blood Shadow Evasion, Ye Ying's red blade technique) to break through the encirclement of thousands of Wood Ape Beasts and flee separately into the forest.
